knee pain is common in the elderly. The most common cause is wear of the tissues in the knee.
1\ Don't sit down for prolonged period
the structure inside the knee are nourished by the fluid of the knee. the fluid is well distributed by movement. Therefore, sitting for prolonged periods will affect the nutrition of the knee.
2\ Avoid the Stairs
going upstairs or downstairs will put severe load on the knee. Gradually the knee components will be affected. If there is an elevator in the building just use it and avoid the stairs.
3\Don't stand up for prolonged periods
Standing up increases the load on the knee. Try to avoid standing up for prolonged periods.
4\Eat healthy food with lots of vitamins
Vegetables and fruits are good sources of antioxidants and these help to repair damages in the body. Also a diet rich in calcium and proteins help to prevent wearing of bone and indirectly reduce the wearing of joints.
5\Treat knee and foot injuries early and properly
Knee injuries and abnormalities in the leg or foot make knee damage appear at an earlier age. So make sure that any injury of the knee treated early and properly.
6\Manage your Weight
Being overweight or obese increases the load on the joint and damage will occur. Maintaining an ideal weight help to combat knee pain. 7\Exercise....Exercise....Exercise
Exercise help to increase the blood supply of the knee structures and also increases the strength of the muscle and hence reduce the load on the knee.
